5 Fun Things to Do in Boulder for Twenty Somethings
Boulder, Colorado, is located just north of Denver and is a unique city. The residents are known for their love of books and affinity for bicycling to work. What’s more, Boulder has an amazing view of the Rocky Mountains, proximity to parks and top-quality restaurants. Sound good? I think so too!
Whether you’re visiting Boulder or are a local, you have plenty of options for ways to spend your free time. In fact, 20-somethings have it made in the city, as many attractions and events are geared toward the young professional crowd. Be sure to check out these things to do in Boulder:
You don’t have to be an outdoors person to enjoy hiking near Boulder– after all, who can resist a stunning view of the mountains? Boulder is surrounded by parks and rock formations, so it would be a real shame if you never checked them out.
While you’re still young and spry, hit locations like The Flatirons and Boulder Mountain Park, both of which offer great hiking opportunities. If you’re visiting the city, however, you might want to acclimate to the new elevation before you do such physically intense work– the air is much thinner and takes some adjusting.
Make sure you wear good hiking boots and bring plenty of water and snacks– just don’t leave trash in the parks!
2. Live, Outdoor Theater
Boulder is home to the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, which takes place outdoors every summer in a stunning amphitheater. There you can see professionals put on several of The Bard’s plays. And let’s not forget, the theater is surrounded by mountains– can it get any more beautiful?
Actually, it does. If you’re in college, you get a discount! Of course, for those 20-somethings who are no longer in school, the performances are worth their full-price tickets.
3. Brewery Tours
Southern Sun, Twisted Pine, Avery Brewing Company: These are some of the craft breweries that call Boulder home. If you love beer, then touring individual facilities or joining a group that hops from one to the next is the activity for you– I know I’d be down!
Many breweries offer a free drink with the trip (who can say no to “free?”). If you go on a multi-facility tour, you may even get to sample food along with your spirits. Craft beer is a big part of Boulder culture, so don’t miss out on some good drinks (if you’re over 21 years old, that is).
Boulder is a mecca for fine dining, and restaurants are a great way for 20-somethings to meet up with friends or have a night out. In fact, Fresca Food and Wine, Flagstaff House, and Jill’s Restaurant have all been awarded Michelin Stars.
Even if you don’t want to drop a big chunk of change on an exquisite dining experience, you can find good eats your young-professional budget can afford. From top-of-the-line pizza places to gourmet sandwich shops, eating out is always a tasty and affordable option.
In fact, 20-somethings may also enjoy visiting the local farmers market, where they can get fresh and local ingredients to spur their own culinary adventures. Beside, strolling around outside, picking fresh veggies and peering at mountains in the distance sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon.
5. Fitness Classes and Clubs
The Boulder culture is one of activity, eco-friendliness, and health, which means that staying in shape is a big deal. In fact, Boulder has one of the lowest rates of obesity in the U.S. compared to other cities.
Joining a fitness class or club is a great way to meet other people, which is why they’re populated by plenty of young people. From yoga to cycling to rock climbing, you’re sure to find a physical activity that matches your interests.
If you’re a 20-something looking for things to do in Boulder, you won’t be disappointed. In addition to this list, you’re sure to find small cafes and local shops that pique your interest. The longer you’re in the city, the more you’ll discover.
