The Scoop: Apartment Hunting in the Sunset District
Best for: Surfers and outdoor enthusiasts unite, the Sunset District is right up your alley! Whether it’s heading Ocean Beach to grab some waves or into one of the many parks nearby (Golden Gate, Stern Grove, Fort Funston), the Sunset District has got you covered for green oases within city limits. There’s also some amazing food on Irving, all the way from 9th to the beach. Just work your way West and you’ll have a happy belly.
Not so hot: Your friends will complain about “how far” it is to get to you. Just send them pictures of the beach on the regular, and they’ll come around.
Sunset-like alternatives: The Sunset District covers a large area as it is, but we like Parkside and Inner Sunset for Western areas with more going on as far as bars and restaurants. For downtown commuters, look for something close to a Muni train line to save yourself time (even if it means learning what happens when you get stuck under Buena Vista Park).
Open Houses This Weekend in the Sunset District:
2222 Vicente St. (San Francisco) | One bedroom / One bathroom | $1,300
Open House: Fri. Feb. 3 6:30pm, Sat. Feb. 4 & Sun. Feb. 5 @ 2:00 – 4:00pm
This cute little top-floor 1-bedroom apartment has hardwood floors and is only $1,300. Another reason to move to the Sunset: this apartment would be twice that price in Pac Heights or the Mission. It’s nestled between the Zoo, Pine Lake Park, and puts you within stumbling distance of summer’s Stern Grove Festival (concert series), one of my top 5 favorite things in the City. A “kitchenette” might be enough for someone who doesn’t cook, and you may not need to with Taraval’s many restaurants just a few blocks away.
2027 46th Ave. (San Francisco) | Three bedroom / Two bathroom | $2,700
Open House: Sat. Feb. 4 @ 2:00 – 4:00pm
Been dreaming of living near the beach with your surfer buds? This 3-bedroom, 2-bath house is for you. It’s $2,700, and includes perks like a dishwasher and a backyard. You are just three shorts blocks to the beach and few blocks to Noriega for the bus and shops and restaurants.
1209 Vicente St. (San Francisco) | One bedroom / One bathroom | $1,650
Open House: Thurs. Feb. 2 @ 6:30 – 7:00pm
Who knew the Sunset could be so fancy? This “luxury condo” 1-bedroom goes for $1,650 (which already seems fairly inexpensive compared to other neighborhoods), and has hardwood floors, in-unit washer and dryer, and your own private deck. Seriously, private deck! It’s a block to Stern Grove and just a few more to two Muni train lines.
