Apartment Hunting Tactic: Using your Renter Card

The moment you decide to move is an exciting one, offering endless possibilities of what a new home could bring to your life; new apartment, new you! Finding a listing online that meets all of your requirements is even more thrilling as your dreams inch closer to becoming reality. That is, until you arrive at the open house, references and credit check in hand, to find a line of people wrapped around the block with not only references and credit checks, but also assorted baked goods in hand. Just like that, you’re slowly brought back down to earth with the realization your apartment hunt has only just begun.

We understand this frustration, which is why we developed a tool for renters to stand out from the competition and impress potential landlords as soon as a listing becomes available: the Lovely Renter Card.

Your Renter Card is a way for you to get in touch with landlords directly and offer them relevant information about yourself that they find most useful in gauging qualified renters. By sending your Renter Card before the viewing, you establish a personal connection early and provide the landlord complete transparency into who you are as a renter.

Here’s how it works:

In your account settings found at the top right corner of your Lovely homepage, select Edit Renter Card.

Complete the information in your Renter Card. We recommend sharing as much as you’re comfortable with in order to give your potential landlord visibility into your qualifications as a renter and give you the best chance of securing your dream apartment!

Once you’ve found a listing you love, or you’ve been alerted to one, and you want to contact the landlord, select Contact from the bottom of the listing and make sure the box that reads Attach My Renter Card is checked. If you prefer to contact the landlord on the phone, you can still follow-up with an email that includes your Renter Card to provide all of your information in one place and show how serious you are about their listing.

Voila! With a few simple steps, the landlord now has immediate access to all the information they need to determine if you’d be a fit to rent their property.

It’s our hope that by utilizing the Lovely Renter Card, you’ll never have to suffer through another crowded open house and instead, you’ll be the one enjoying baked goods, only this time it will be at your housewarming party!
